BANDA ACEH – Ketua Umum Partai Nasional Aceh (PNA), Irwansyah atau yang dikenal dengan Muksalmina, mengirimkan surat belasungkawa atas meninggalnya seorang tokoh Inggris, Lord Avebury. Sosok ini dinilai sangat banyak membantu Aceh.
Muksalmina yang juga mantan kombatan dan Juru Bicara Militer GAM Aceh Rayeuk menyatakan duka yang mendalam atas kepergian seorang putra terbaik Inggris itu. Menurutnya Avebury telah banyak berjuang untuk penegakan HAM di seluruh dunia, termasuk Aceh.
“Lord yang sudah meninggal itu sering mengingatkan pemerintah Inggris dalam berbagai kesempatan untuk menghormati perjanjian persahabatan yang pernah dibuat kerajaan Inggris dengan Kesultanan Aceh,” ujar Muksalmina dalam suratnya seperti rilis yang dikirim ke portalsatu.com, Rabu, 17 Februari 2016.
Dalam surat tersebut Muksalmina juga menyebutkan jasa Lord Avebury dalam membantu pengungsi Aceh. “Juga peran penting yang dimainkan Lord dalam mendorong perdamaian Aceh sejak masa CoHA sampai sekarang,” ujarnya.

We have just learned the sad news of the passing away of Lord Eric Avebury, one of the most illustrious sons of Great Britain, who had fought for human rights and dignity of oppressed people worldwide, especially for us Acehnese. The late Lord endlessly reminded your Government of the existence of Treaty of Friendship that existed between the Sultanate of Aceh and Great Britain. He continued to express his concern of the plight of Acehnese refugees during the 30 year bloody conflict with the Republic of Indonesia, in the Parliament of Europe. He actively worked behind the scene for the success of the peace process until the signing of the Frame Agreement for the Cessation of Hostilities in Aceh (CoHA) in Geneva. He stopped his involvement in Aceh case when it was physically impossible for him to continue. The Late Lord Eric Avebury was the closest friend of our great leader the Late Dr. Hasan di Tiro. Allow us Excellency, on behalf of the Acehnese people to express our deepest sympathy and appreciation to the beloved departed and to request your good office to convey our most profound condolences to the family.
